Ok, so the words Uwe Boll and excellent film will never grace the same page. However, today, Uwe Boll and the words “not a bad film” will share the page. Instead of the usual “worst film since his last one” and “utter shite”, i can actually almost recommend this one!

Its starts well, a young twenty something lad seems to have more than a chip on his shoulder at the world and no one seems to take him seriously. The guy in the coffee shop cannot get his coffee right, his boss won’t let him take a longer lunch break, and now his parents are kicking him out. He’s having a bad time and the only person he can talk to is is Brad Pitt look-a-like friend who seems to have studied Pitts performance in Twelve Monkeys a fair amount!

Anyway, our main character has been getting his friend to get him some equipment from his Dad, he is building his own Iron Man suit and he is about to go on the Rampage!(see how i used the films title there!) He heads off into his unsuspecting quiet little town and starts by using a device to control a van and drive it into police headquarters and blow it up. With the police pretty much all dead, he sets about “cleansing the world” by shooting anything that moves! What you have to respect is Uwe Bolls utter disrespect for political correctness, he will never abide by the rules and for that he deserves a little respect. The unknown actor he has chosen to play the lead does a very fine job indeed and is actually quite chilling in places. As he goes round killing,at only half an hour in, you start to think, how can Boll keep this exciting for another hour. Well, he actually just about pulls it off! A truly hilarious and actually stroke of genius scene sees our antihero walk into a bingo hall, and the old farts have no idea he has literally been blowing up the town outside and there are bodies everywhere. No one even looks at him funny as he walks in holding two massive guns and is wearing full body armour and helmet. He casually walks around, even orders a sandwich but then gets mad and decides to interrupt the bingo by stealing one of the numbered balls and proceed to bounce it around the tables.

Boll does let it slip as is nears its conclusion and i began to lose interest, until he hits you with a real fuck you ending with a great twist. I must say, Boll has a long long way to go to redeem his previous efforts, but this aint too bad at all. The production is much crisper than usual, the effects look good, even the actors are actually acting for a change. There is also a pretty dark message in there about the state of the world, and how there are simply too many of us in it and we are using up resources and going crazy over money to buy things we WANT, not things we NEED. So, Boll is at least trying to send a message, problem is the message here is that the best way to deal with our problems is to kill off large portions of the population which, i’m sorry mate, wouldn’t stand up in court.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
