Confirmed, Bruce Campbell WILL appear in the Evil Dead remake!! Hurrah!!

Finally, the news we’ve all been waiting for, Bruce ‘The Chinned One’ Campbell will be appearing in Federico Alvarez’s remake of Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead. I had been worried, the Evil Dead would not be the same without him and rumours were that he may not appear at all. Even though it will just be a cameo, Alvarez has done the right thing bringing Campbell’s Ash back for a final time. Diablo Cody is currently working on re-writing the script and we can only pray now that she does a good job, she’d better! Anyway, director Alvarez was recently interviewed by a Spanish website called El Pais and here is what Alvarez had to say:

We realize the mistakes not to make,” says Alvarez. “As fans of the original, we know we are going to offend those who are also fans just by taking this job. We’re going to honor the original film along with the existing fans and hope to bring in a new audience as well.

Because we are fans of the original, we realize that nobody wants to see a celebrity in a remake like this,” he continues. “The only recognizable face will be that of Bruce Campbell, and he will be in a cameo toward the end of the film. We are going to change the characters and some story details, while keeping the basic outline of friends who are beleaguered by demons in a cabin alone.

Alvarez continues, “Sam Raimi says there’s a fine line between horror and comedy. The original Evil Dead was intended as a straight horror movie with scenes of extreme gore directly designed to shock the viewer. I rented the movie with a friend from a video store at just thirteen years old, and that was a big mistake! The film scared the life out of us.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
