For years Ghostbuster 3 has been a go, then it stops (usually due to Bill Murray) then its on again, then off, and now Dan Aykroyd has sort of ‘confirmed’ the film is definitely going to happen regardless of what happens with Murray. Murray hasn’t even read the script yet, but it would seem all the other guys involved are ready to press on and get started. While on ‘The Dennis Miller Show’, Aykroyd was asked about the delay in Ghostbusters 3 and exploded with the following:
“Yes, we will be doing the movie and hopefully with Mr. Murray,” he says, “That is our hope. We have an excellent script. What we have to remember is that ‘Ghostbusters’ is bigger than any one component, although Billy was absolutely the lead and contributive to it in a massive way, as was the director and Harold [Ramis], myself and Sigourney [Weaver]. The concept is much larger than any individual role and the promise of ‘Ghostbusters 3’ is that we get to hand the equipment and the franchise down to new blood.“
As for his character Ray, Aykroyd told the show a little about what was planned for him, and also of another key character, read on:
“My character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and can’t drive the cadillac,” he says, “He’s got a bad knee and can’t carry the packs… Egon is too large to get into the harness. We need young blood and that’s the promise. We’re gonna hand it to a new generation.“
Since we have had so many promises I wouldn’t get you hopes up too much based on this. However, it would seem that Ghostbusters 3 will be happening, the question is, will we have already passed over into the afterlife by the time is does?
