The UK trailer has landed for Lars Von Triers acclaimed new film, Melancholia. After his outburst at Cannes, the director needs some good word of mouth to help his reputation, and his new film which centres on the end of the world and two sisters’ relationships could give him the positive reviews he needs. Early word is that Melancholia is very very good, and that Kirsten Dunst gives a career best performance.
Due in UK cinemas from 30th September, the film has a very impressive cast including Dunst, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Gainsbourg, John Hurt, Charlotte Rampling, Alexander Skarsgard, Stellan Skarsgard and Brady Corbet. Von Trier also wrote the film which is about the end of the world as a massive planet called Melancholia threatens to collide with Earth. Being a Von Trier film this is no simple disaster movie like, say, Armageddon, no, this film concentrates on two sisters and a wedding and will be more about relationships, dark end of the world depression and heavy heavy drama. Not a film to cheer yourself up to, but I am certain this will be one of this years highlights.
