Writer Todd Farmer and director Patrick Lussier have stated this week that their proposed Hellraiser remake for Dimension Films is now “unlikely to happen with them involved”. Its not been a good week for Farmer, who also seems to have been fired from writing Halloween 3D. The pairs ideas have not grabbed Dimension’s attention, which is a shame considering they are some of the few filmmakers out there willing to put their own stamp on a remake. And based on this evidence, the Hellraiser remake, once again, is not happening. In fact, I don’t think it will ever happen at this rate. How the apparently horrendously bad Hellraiser: Revelations can make it out straight to DVD and yet a remake with a credible writer and director with big ideas cannot even get off the ground.
To give you an idea of what could have been, we found some pictures from Shock Till You Drop which show some concept art of make up artist’s Gary Tunnicliffe’s ideas for the Cenobites, and Pinhead himself. You can make up your own mind, but I think Pinhead actually looks a bit daft! The female Cenobite looks disturbingly sexy, while the fella with the mask and arm weapon looks pretty darned cool. Maybe these designs will stick for whoever does come up with the ideas to please Dimension films, maybe not?
