Sigourney Weaver was recently interviewed by Coming Soon, and with her name possibly attached to what could be two of the biggest sequels of all time, there was no doubt she was going to be quizzed on them. The two films in question were Ghostbusters 3, and Avatar 2. It would appear that Weaver will be appearing in both.
(Spoiler) Even though her character was killed off in James Cameron’s Avatar, it would seem that sci-fi can’t keep a dead person down, and science find a way for them to return. Here is what she said about Avatar 2:
“Don’t worry, I will be back. Jim [Cameron] says no one ever dies in science fiction . He’s told me the stories for the next two movies and I have to say that they’re absolutely wonderful and there’s a real treat in store. Now we just have to make them.”
She was later asked about Ghostbusters 3, and it seems her character, Dana, will also be returning. there are also hints that Bill Murray’s character, Peter Venkman, will possibly be returning as a ghost?
“I have yet to read the script. I’ve had a couple of calls and I know they’re rewriting and all I said was that I hope my son, Oscar, has grown up to be a Ghostbuster and Ivan Reitman said yes. Beyond that, I have no idea. I hope it comes together, but we already did two wonderful films and, if we have to let this one go, that’s fine.
Well I guess Peter Venkman is dead. Dana without… I guess his spectre always was with her, whether she liked it or not.”
Not a lot to go on I suppose, so take from this what you will. Sadly, this is all the news we have on either film right now, but expect much more as they develop.
