With Kenneth Branagh passing the reigns for the THOR sequel, rumours have persisted that Games of Thornes showrunner Brian Kirk was the odds on to take over the franchise.
But like the original when everyone gasped over the news of our Branagh, it seems once again an appointment is expected that will shock everyone. Monster director Patty Jenkins is lined up for the sequel which at the moment Don Payne is currently writing the script and the negotiations with Jenkins is at an early stage.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently told EW that plans were developing fast for the sequel, which he said would “take Thor literally to other worlds.” While moviegoers will next see Chris Hemsworth as the hammer-swinging hero in ‘The Avengers’ next May, ‘Thor 2? would “primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and how the new dynamic with his father (Odin, played by Anthony Hopkins) is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine worlds”.
Jenkins whose film Monster won huge critical acclaim when it was released 2003 and won an Oscar for Charlize Theron, has recently directed the pilot episode of ABC’s “The Killing” and numerous episodes of popular TV hit Entourage may be a suprise choice to many but this franchise is trying to be different to the many other Superhero films that are out at the moment!
Thor 2 is set for theatrical release in the U.S. on July 26th, 2013
