It was a real shame to learn not that long ago that Kevin Costner had pulled out of Tarantino’s Django Unchained, however he had his reasons and we can all only hope that the film he decided to take instead will be very special indeed. Tarantino has a gift of helping veteran actors, such as Costner, re-start their career. Was it a good move for Costner to turn it down? I guess his next film will tell. However, this had left the part open for Tarantino to pick someone else.
Step forward Mr Kurt Russell, who will now play the role of Ace Woody, a nasty piece of work who trains slaves to fight in organised bouts for fun, and is also henchman to Leonardo DiCaprio’s villain Calvin Candie. To be honest, I would have loved to have seen Costner in the role, but thinking about it now, this role does feel more suited to Russell as he can really put on the nasty factor when he wants to.
Django Unchained is shaping up to be one Hell of a film, the pre-Civil War Western already has Jamie Foxx playing Django, a slave who is freed by a German bounty hunter named Schultz (Christoph Waltz). Schultz trains Django how to be a better fighter and teaches him new skills with weapons, and then joins him on his quest to free his still enslaved loved one Brommhilda.
Other names also attached to the film include Samuel L Jackson, Treat Williams, Denis Christopher and Gerald McRaney with Kerry Washington and Michael K Williams rumoured to be joining too.
