Benicio Del Toro to play the bad guy in J.J. Abrams ‘Star Trek 2’?

Rumours are circulating that J.J Abrams wants the great Benicio Del Toro to play the role of the lead bad guy in his sequel to Star Trek. According to Variety Abrams has already met with Del Toro to discuss the possibility of the role, and the word is an offer will be placed on Del Toro’s table as early as this weekend!

The Star Trek sequel is now in pre-production and is due to start filming early 2012. Cast members already attached include Zachary Quinto returning as Spock, as well as Chris Pine (Kirk), Simon Pegg (Scotty), Zoe Saldana (Nyota Uhura), Anto Yelchin (Pavel Chekov), Karl Urban (Bones) and John Cho (Hikaru Sulu) all returning. The sequel has been written by Alex Krutzman, Damon Lindelof and Roberto Orci.

The last big role for Del Tor was the Wolfman, and even though the film was a bit of a disaster, Del Toro brought his unique character skills to the role. Del Toro is a fine actor, one of my favourites in fact, with superb roles in films such as Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, Che, Traffic, 21 Grams, Way of the Gun, The Usual Suspects, Snatch and Sin City behind him, the actor deserves a role on a film as big as Star Trek 2. Del Toro will also make a mighty fine bad guy.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
