Lily Collins had barely signed up for The Evil Dead remake, and now she’s off again! Collins was due to play Mia, a female version of Ash, but now she has left the project. Who will replace her is anybody’s guess, but whoever it is, they are stepping into some mighty big shoes, and to be honest with Ash being such an iconic character, do they really need to replace him? Considering the route the new film is taking, less comedy and full on serious, dark and menacing, would it not be better to leave Ash out completely? Unless Bruce Campbell wants to reprise his role (which he doesn’t) then I don’t think the role should be “re-imagined” There are characters who fit in with a remake and can easily be added to an updated version of a film, but not Ash, Campbell owned that role!
Anyway, Variety’s Jeff Sneider wrote of Twitter: “Due to date issues, LILY COLLINS will not be able to star in THE EVIL DEAD reboot!”
It is a shame Collins won’t be appearing at all as she is mighty fine to look at, but there you go.
Fede Alvarez directs the remake, which has been written by Diablo Cody, Sam Raimi and Fede Alvarez. Both Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi will be producing and the film is expected to arrive 12th April 2013.
