Oh I do love a good crime thriller, and when mobsters are involved, it is even better! For some odd reason, I had never heard of Cogan’s Trade until now, so it gives me great pleasure to share with you these images and a little about the film. Andrew Dominik directs, and from his past history of films, he is a great choice. His previous films include Chopper and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, two exceptional films which gives me a great feeling about this new film.
The cast are magnificent, with Brad Pitt taking the lead role as Cogan, an enforcer called in to sort trouble out when the Mob’s rules are broken. Joining Pitt are a whole host of veteran actors including Ray Liotta as a Mobster who runs poker games, James Gandolfini plays a drunk hitman and Richard Jenkins plays a lawyer. Also joining the cast are Scoot McNairy, Ben Mendelsohn, Vincent Curatola and Trevor Long. The film is currently in post-production and no release date has yet been set.
The film is based on a book by the same name which is written by George V. Higgins. Here is the synopsis for the book:
Jackie Cogan (Pitt) is an enforcer, and when the mob’s rules get broken, Cogan is called in to take care of business. This time a high-stakes card game has been held up by an unknown gang of thugs. Calculating, ruthless, businesslike, and with a shrewd sense of other people’s weaknesses, Cogan plies his trade, moving among a variety of hoods, hangers-on, and big-timers, tracking those responsible, and returning “law and order” to the lawless Boston underworld.
