Sometimes you wonder why?
Why do others feel the need to redo an already successful concept? Why do they believe that they can actually better an already critically acclaimed piece of work?
WHY? WHY? WHY WHY? WHY? WHY?…………
As you know CBS are doing their own take on Sherlock, now I must stress its not a direct re-working of the BBC classic show but with a Holmes once again set in our time, fans are going to link the two together
Now this week brought more despair when it was announced that Johnny Lee Miller had been cast in the iconic role for the show which is going to be called Elementary! Now Miller is a fine actor but I really can not see him in the role, especially with the shadowy figure of Benedict Cumberbatch looming over him. But like many we will all give it a go, because that is what fans do….
Anyhow Sherlock producer Sue Vertue has hinted about potential legal action, should the CBS show be at all similar to the BBC show. Vertue had this to say:
“Jonny is a very fine actor, who I saw recently in the theatre when he and Benedict played alternative roles in Frankenstein”, she told The Independent. “Let’s hope their pilot script has stayed further away from our Sherlock than their casting choice. We have been in touch with CBS and informed them that we will be looking at their finished pilot very closely for any infringement of our rights”
This is a story that is only going to get bigger but to realise the whole idea of why the BBC are a bit annoyed that this is happening, well put it this way….can you imagine if they decided to do a show about a female school girl who found out that she was a slayer to all Vampires and called it Sarah The Vampire Slayer and then announced it had nothing to do with the American version?
Now you can see the anger over the show Elementary!….
