A chilling new trailer and poster revealed for ‘The Monk’ starring Vincent Cassel

There hasn’t been a lot of marketing for director Dominik Moll’s (Lemming) new Gothic chiller, The Monk (Le Moine), so here at HCF we are very pleased to present to you the new trailer. However, today we have more than just a creepy new trailer, there is also a rather eye catching poster which goes some way to prepare you for the horrors that await in this film.

The superb Vincent Cassel leads the way in the film as Capucin Ambrosio, the Monk of the title, and he will be joined by Deborah Francois, Josephine Japy, Sergi Lopez, Catherine Mouchet, Jordi Dauder and Geraldine Chaplin. The Monk arrives in selected UK cinemas on 27th April.

The rise and fall of a Capuchin Monk (Vincent Cassel) in 17th century Madrid.

Abandoned as a baby on the steps of a monastery and raised in strict Capuchin fashion, Ambrosio has become the most famous preacher in the country. While large crowds from all over the country come to hear his mesmerizing sermons, he’s also bitterly envied for his success by certain fellow monks.

Convinced of his virtue and righteousness, Brother Ambrosio thinks he is immune to temptation…

Until obscure events start terrorizing the monastery. Could they be connected to the unexpected arrival of Valerio, an apprentice monk who has the miraculous gift to relieve Ambrosio’s splitting headaches and hides his disfigured face under a wax mask?

Adapted from the eponymous cult classic Gothic novel by Matthew Gregory Lewis, written in 1796.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
