While the thought of Megan Fox playing Carrie White in Kimberly Peirce’s new adaptation of Stephen King’s classic tale may have got some fans excited, I don’t think Fox would have been right for the part. She expressed an interest when the new version was announced, and I think we all believed deep down it would never work. Peirce has stated that with her new version of King’s classic story, she intends to stick much closer to the source material than Brian DePalma did back in 1976.
This week New York Magazine’s Vulture has published a list of top candidates to play the part of Carrie White in Peirce’s version, and right now top of the list are two names, Chloe Moretz (above, Kick Ass, Let Me In) and Haley Bennet (Lawless). A number of other names are also being considered for the role, including Dakota Fanning (War of the Worlds, Runaways), Emily Browning (Sucker Punch, Sleeping Beauty), Lily Collins (Mirror, Mirror) and Bella Heathcote (In Time).
An impressive list, although for me Moretz is possibly the wrong choice. I think that Emily Browning would be a great choice to play Carrie as she has an intensity, and a real dark side to her. We will have to wait and see.
More potential casting news has also been announced as to who may be playing Carrie’s mother. Apparently Julianne Moore and Jodi Foster have been approached to play the role. I think Foster is a great actress, however Moore tips that choice for me.
Who do you think should play the role of Carie in the new film? Some pictures follow to help you decide.
