See, I do love Sacha Baron Cohen, and even though I enjoyed his Ali G TV show, loved the movies of Bruno and especially Borat, I am finding it very difficult to find anything funny about The Dictator. The trailer is incredibly weak, and the only scene which brought on a slight chuckle, for me, was the race where he shoots his competition.
Marketing has been pretty slow in this too, and with the film due for release here in the UK on 18th May, at this moment in time I really don’t see it being much of a success. Today the opening scene from the film was released, and yet again I am struggling to find anything at all funny. It feels tired, lacking in ideas and a bit, well, crap really. I am really hoping that the marketing has just got it wrong, and are saving the best scenes for the actual film itself. However, if what they have showed us so far is the best the film has to offer, then I just might give this one a miss.
Larry Charles directs, and Sacha Baron Cohen both writes and stars in the film as Admiral General Aladeen. Other names included in the cast are Megan Fox, Anna Faris, Ben Kingsley, John C. Reilly and B.J. Novak.
The heroic story of a dictator who risks his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed.
