When Benicio del Toro was rumoured to be cast in the new Star Trek film, Trekkies across the world presumed he’d be playing Trek’s most famous bad guy – the exiled Eugenics War leader Khan Noonien Singh. After Benedict Cumberbatch was hired instead, fans everywhere scratched their heads on who the British actor could be playing. Well TrekMovie have confirmed that Cumberbatch will be starring as Khan after all, a role previously held by Ricardo Montalban in Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan, with his first appearance in the Star Trek episode Space Seed. Claims from TrekMovie insist that the new film will not be a rehash of old storylines, but indeed a fresh tale.
Leonard Nimoy will once again join the cast as Spock Prime, with JJ Abrams and the crew convincing him to come out of retirement one last time to resume the role.
Klingons too have been rumoured to appear in Star Trek 2, which is currently filming in LA.
