Cannes teaser trailer for ‘Maniac’ remake is very impressive, and very NSFW!!

When news of the remake of the classic 80’s slasher Maniac first arrived, I was very sceptical. When further news arrived that Elijah Wood playing the role of the killer, famously played by a sweaty, horrible Joe Spinell in the original, I had reservations that this would be any good. However, the news of Alexandre Aja being involved as producer and writer did give a glimmer of hope.

Then came the news of the film being filmed mostly from the killers point of view, with any shots of us actually seeing the killer being from his reflections in mirrors etc, then the first images landed of Wood playing the killer Frank, and you know what, he actually looked good in the role. Thankfully all my questions about whether this remake will actually be any good have now been answered thanks to a very impressive Cannes sales trailer which went online a few days ago.

We have the trailer right here for you, but be warned it is Not Safe For Work as it does contain nudity and violence, but it also contains some superb atmosphere and a wonderful design which makes the film look very arty, but very sadistic. The music works really well too, and from what I can see in the trailer, this will not be your average slasher film. I think Maniac is going to take to horror world my surprise and deliver one hell of a ride! More on this as it develops.

Maniac is directed by Franck Khalfoun, and Alexandre Aja is on writing and producing duties. Elijah Wood is playing the role of the killer, Frank, with the gorgeous America Olivo playing his Mother. Nora Arnezeder, Liane Balaban, Morgane Slemp, Sammi Rotibi and Sal Landi also appear in the film.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
