As if we ever thought this wouldn’t happen, but in probably the most obvious and pointless news of the year, it has been said that a Avengers 2 movie is in development. Does anyone really believe that a sequel was not happening? Really!
Anyway, in a news conference yesterday, Disney CEO Bob Iger mentioned that a sequel to The Avengers was in development. However, some reports today are saying that his words were taken out of context, and that a sequel has not been officially confirmed. I think we all know the truth, and that a sequel will happen, and thanks to the end credits tease, we have a good idea who the villain will be. The big question is though, will director Joss Whedon return, after all, he is a big part of the films success.
Whedon has said he would return, but intends to take the next film into a more personal, smaller and painful approach. However, we still have a number of Marvel films to get through before we can start looking forward to The Avengers 2. Next year see’s the release of Iron Man 3 and Thor 2, and 2014 will see the return of Captain America, so the Avengers 2 is a while off yet.
In other Marvel news, Rebecca Hall (pictured above) is in talks to join the cast of director Shane Black’s Iron Man 3. Jessica Chastain was originally cast, but left the film suddenly this week, leaving Disney and Marvel in a rush to re-cast the sexy scientist role as quickly as possibly due to the film going into production next month. Thankfully Hall (The Awakening)is looking to be cast, and she will easily fill the role of a sexy scientist.
Hall will be joining the already cast Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark, Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killain, Ben Kingsley as the villain and Don Cheadle is back as Lt. Co. James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes. Hall will play a scientist who rivals Tony Stark’s intelligence, and who plays a pivotal part in the creation of nanotechnology known as Extremis. The tech, which winds up in the hands of terrorists, is a carrier for a viral outbreak that causes considerable damage, especially to anyone who happens to be wearing a high-tech suit of battle armor.
Iron Man 3 is expected to hit UK cinemas 3rd May 2013.
