The answer to the question “will Brandon Cronenberg follow in his Father’s footsteps?” has now well and truly been answered. Brandon has taken his film to Cannes, and while he may be competing with his Father’s own ‘Cosmopolis’, Brandon’s ‘Antiviral’ would appear to be just as insane as anything his Dad could conjure up. Granted Brandon is going to have to go a long long way to prove himself worthy of following in his Father’s footsteps, it would appear that his debut film, Antiviral, has been a promising start.
The film stars Caleb Landry Jones in a truly unsettling and creepy role as Syd March, a man who sells injections of celebrities viruses. Jones appears to have swallowed up the role perfectly, and in the following clip, he looks intensely creepy. The use of music also adds a real sense of menace to the clip. The film also features Sarah Gadon, Malcolm McDowell, Douglas Smith, Joe Pingue and Nicholas Campbell.
Syd March is an employee at a clinic that sells injections of live viruses harvested from sick celebrities to obsessed fans. Biological communion – for a price. Syd also supplies illegal samples of these viruses to piracy groups, smuggling them from the clinic in his own body. When he becomes infected with the disease that kills super sensation Hannah Geist, Syd becomes a target for collectors and rabid fans. He must unravel the mystery surrounding her death before he suffers the same fate.
