BOX OFFICE PHENOMENON MARVEL AVENGERS ASSEMBLE TAKES THE CROWN AS THE UK’s NO 1 SUPERHERO MOVIE OF ALL TIME





With an impressive UK box-office take of £49.4 million to date, Marvel Avengers Assemble has now surpassed the entire box-office run of The Dark Knight, making it the UK’s number 1 superhero movie of all time.

The box office smash had already overtaken the UK box office totals of superhero predecessors Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Hulk and Captain America some weeks ago.

Marvel Avengers Assemble is also The Walt Disney Company UK’s 2nd biggest live action film to ever be released, behind Pirates of the Caribbean and the 3rd biggest film ever to be released by the company.

The film began opening across the world on April 25, crossing the $1 billion threshold at the global box office after just 19 days of release and continues to break impressive box office barriers:

· It is the #3 film of all-time globally, behind only Avatar ($2,782M) and Titanic ($2,185M)

· It stands as the #3 film of all-time domestically, behind only Avatar ($761M) and Titanic ($659M)

· The film is the #4 film of all-time internationally, behind only Avatar ($2,022M), Titanic ($1,527M) and Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows.

Marvel Avengers Assemble brings together some of Marvel’s most loved superhero characters in the biggest superhero movie in history. Directed by Joss Whedon, the film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Tom Hiddleston, with Stellan Skarsgård and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, from a story by Zak Penn and Joss Whedon with screenplay by Joss Whedon, Marvel Avengers Assemble is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since.

Marvel Avengers Assemble is presented by Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures. The film is being produced by Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige and executive produced by Alan Fine, Stan Lee, Jon Favreau, Louis D’Esposito, Patricia Whitcher, Victoria Alonso and Jeremy Latcham.
