While we have been waiting well over a decade for Jurassic Park 4, rumours and talk of the fourth film have continued to come and go and nothing has ever felt concrete. However, at last years Comic-Con, director Steven Spielberg announced that there were indeed plans for a fourth film, and coming from the creator of the franchise, this was very promising news indeed.
However, since then things have gone quiet, with the odd smattering of brief news here and there, and fans were beginning to worry this was yet another rumour which had no teeth. Thankfully news has arrived yesterday that it a good indication that things are most definitely moving forward, and that Jurassic Park 4 IS happening!
Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the writers responsible for last years excellent Rise of the Planet of the Apes, have been hired by Universal to write Jurassic Park 4. This is fantastic news, and anyone who has seen the mighty Rise of the Planet of the Apes will know that this pair can certainly write a good script. The way they brought such realism, such depth and such intensity to Rise.. is proof that this pair are the perfect choice for Jurassic Park 4. I was pretty excited at the idea of the fourth film, but with this pair on board to write, I am officially shaking with anticipation!
Steven Spielberg will not be directing this film, however he will produce along with Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall. Kathleen Kennedy said to Collider back in December: “A great script is what it’s gonna take to get a fourth Jurassic Park. We have a very high bar for ourselves because we’re just like the audience, we don’t want to make the movie if there’s not a reason to make the movie, so we’ve kinda created the dilemma ourselves because it was never intended to be a franchise, so there’s an argument to be made…that why are you making a fourth Jurassic Park – so we gotta find a good reason for why we’re making a fourth Jurassic Park, and we’re in the midst of working on that right now”
As for now there are no details on who will star in the film, or what the intended story will be, however those who are desperate for their Dinosaur fix will be able to see Jurassic Park 3D in cinemas next year. I have already stated my thoughts on this post-conversion nonsense, but the release date for the US is 19th July 2013, and it will more than likely be the same for here in the UK.
