TV: More classic movies heading for the small screen as MTV is developing a ‘Scream’ TV series

MTV is currently looking for develop Wes Craven’s classic horror franchise, Scream, into a TV series. Clearly the buzz around their series of Teen Wolf, which debuted a couple of days ago, has got them excited and now they want to explore further horror stories and bring them to the small screen. With the current fascination with the Hannibal TV series for NBC, and shows like American Horror Story and Harper’s Island proving extremely popular, horror seems a good prospect for TV right now.

TVLine has said that former MTV executives Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley are on the hunt for a writer to pen the series, and the pair are creating the project under their DiGa production. It is unlikely that Scream writer Kevin Williamson will return to write this series, although it has not been ruled out that there is a possibility that both Williamson and director Wes Craven could be approached to add something to the series.

No other news is available at this time, however the idea of a Scream TV series is very exciting indeed. My only concern is that if the TV series goes ahead, as it probably will, where does this leave Scream 5?

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
