If you’re like me you’ll agree that Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland was a dull disappointment, but another adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s brilliantly imaginative and funny tale is in the planning which sounds like it will be alot more interesting. Now I am sure that every horror fan will know of Lionsgate, the studio which was responsible for the Saw series but also a great many other horror films and some far more interesting! It seems that Lionsgate are now entering the world of TV and have just won a fierce bidding war for the rights to a trilogy of graphic novels from Zenescope called Wonderland, which retell the story in modern times from the point of view of Alice’s daughter, and are, and I quote, “dark, intense and sexual”. As a fan of Carroll’s story, I am extremely interested in a version which explores the more adult and twisted aspects which are very subtle but definately there in the book, and which haven’t been really delved into properly yet. The plan is to have an established actress play the title role of Alice. As I write the search is on for a writer to adapt the material.
For me the 1950 Disney animated version is by far the best version of Alice In Wonderland but I wonder if at last it could have some competition…..
