‘The Wolverine’ update: Jessica Biel will NOT appear as Viper, however Svetlana Khodchenkova is now is talks for the role

Earlier this week I reported that Jessica Biel was looking to be cast in The Wolverine as Viper. Viper is a force within Hydra, and her relationship with Wolverine is complicated, with even a marriage in there somewhere. Viper is at times a friend, at others an enemy and also the love interest of The Wolverine, so should prove a rather interesting character. Biel was all set to spice up the role, however talks with the actress and 20th Century Fox has not worked out, and Biel is out.

However, as quickly as Biel came and went, another actress has already been lined up for the role. With The Wolverine already suffering delays, it seems Fox are keen to get moving on director James Mangold’s film, and are already in talks with Russian actress Svetlana Khodchenkova (above) to play the role of Viper. It has been said that Fox are hoping to close the deal quickly.

Khodchenkova is not massively well known outside of Russia, with her biggest film outside of her country being Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. However, I did feel that maybe Biel was too well known for the role of the mysterious Viper, and hopefully a lesser known actress should bring some much needed mystery to the role.

If she signs, she will  join Hugh Jackman and a number of new actors who were confirmed last week, including Will Yun Lee, Brian Tee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Rila Fukushima and Tao Okamoto.

The Wolverine is expected to arrive in UK cinemas 26th July 2013.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
