Disney and Marvel are putting together a live action TV series based on Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D, and ABC is wasting no time in getting it started. Joss Whedon, who has signed a three year deal with Disney and Marvel, will be heavily involved in the pilot episode for the show. It has been reported by Deadline that Whedon will both write and produce the first episode for the series, and directing duties will go to his brother Jed Whedon and his wife Maurissa Tancharoen.
Joss Whedon will write the pilot episode along with Jed and Maurissa (who both wrote Spartacus and Dollhouse), and while Joss is expected to produce, he will not direct but jokingly said yesterday that he’ll show up every now and then “and take credit for everything.”
Joss Whedon also said of the TV series plot “the storyline for the proposed series will be largely ‘autonomous’ from the Avengers sequel feature that is also in the works,” adding that it’s not a spinoff. So this means the TV show will be heading in its own direction, and could open up a whole new story for Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D operatives, and with Whedon getting back to working in TV (if only briefly), this is very exciting indeed.
No other details have been released for the proposed TV series, but we will be sure to bring them to you once they become available.
