We all knew this was coming right? Did anyone actually expect, after all this time, that Bill Murray would indeed return as Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters 3? The ill fated new film has been on, then off, then on and Murray has pretty much said no to it from the start. I believe he has given glimmers of hope here and there just for fun, and we all fell for it!
However, it is now official, he will NOT be returning, Dan Aykroyd says he won’t be returning, and it looks like the film can finally get moving without Murray (until the next change of heart). In a recent interview Aykroyd was asked, again, whether Murray would be returning for the third Ghostbusters film, and here is what he said:
“No, I can tell you he won’t be involved,” Oh really! Well, what about the third film then Dan, what does the future hold for Ghostbusters 3. The actor then went on to explain further:
“It’s sad but we’re passing it on to a new generation, ‘Ghostbusters 3’ can be a successful movie without Bill. My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn’t seem to be coming and we have to move on. It’s time to make the third one.”
We kind of knew this all along, but hey ho, it means Ghostbusters 3 gets another headline! Recently we brought you the news that Men in Black 3 writer Etan Cohen was now onboard to help with the script, and that the film was “moving forward”. It has been moving forward for years…
