Come on, who doesn’t love it when Nicolas Cage is let off his leash to go a but mental? The actor has always made his films far more exciting than they probably should be, by simply letting his crazy side take over. Take Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance for instance, a shit film, but had Cage not been in it, it would not have been half as much fun. The scene of him on his motorbike, screaming, shaking his head and turning into Ghost Rider is still up there as one of the funniest scenes of the year! Then, Cage can go dark mental and actually be quite disturbing (Bad Lieutenant, Leaving Las Vegas, Bringing Out the Dead). So, the news that he is being allowed out to play again is very welcome!
In I Am Rage, which will be distributed by Lionsgate, Cage will play a man hell bent on revenge after his wife is murdered. Cage will play Stanley, and he gets nothing from the police, and they fail to catch his wife’s killer. Digging deeper, Stanley “uncovers a thick plot of police corruption and realizes that he will have to find justice on his own.” He then goes on a rampage, taking out his anger on anyone who abuses their power.
Emmet/Furla Films (Frozen Ground) are making the film, and production is expected to begin early next year. Paul Sloan (Stiletto) is writing the scriopt, which is based on a story by Yvan Gauthier. William Friedkin (The Exorcist, The French Connection, Bug, Killer Joe) is top of the list to direct this one, and personally I couldn’t think of anything better than having such a wonderful director take charge of a mad Nicolas Cage. I Am Rage could very well be quite special!
