‘Machete Kills’ bags itself a US distribution deal thanks to Open Road Films, and the first official image is revealed





Open Road Films has acquired all US distribution rights to Robert Rodriguez’ massive sequel, Machete Kills. Deadline reports that Open Road CEO Tom Ortenberg sealed the deal yesterday.

“Robert Rodriguez never ceases to wow audiences with his innovative and eye-popping film making. We are thrilled to bring the Machete franchise into the Open Road family and can’t wait to get to work with this incredible cast and the film making team,” stated Ortenberg.

No release dates have been announced yet, but the first official image went on-line earlier today and you can check it out below. The image shows Machete in a rather pleasant position with Amber Heard playing Miss San Atonio sat on top of him. Machete sure does like his ladies…

Machete Kills is directed by Robert Rodriguez, and written by Kyle Ward and Alvaro Rodriguez. The huge cast includes William Sadler, Lady Gaga, Charlie Sheen, The Avellan Twins,  Sofia Vergara, Edward James Olmos, Mel Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Amber Heard, Demian Bichir, Zoe Saldana, Marko Zaror, Cuba Gooding Jnr, Alexa Vega, Vanessa Hudgens and of course Danny Trejo in Robert Rodriguez’s sequel.

Synopsis:

“The new film finds Machete recruited by the U.S. Government for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man. Machete must battle his way through Mexico to take down a madman cartel leader and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war across the planet with a weapon in space. Machete takes on an army in an effort to dismantle a plan for global anarchy”
