Now that it has been confirmed that Marc Webb will return to direct, and both Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will return, things can begin to start moving forward on The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and already a new name has been added to the cast.
The Descendants and TV series The Secret Life of the American Teenager star Shailene Woodley is about to join the cast, reports Variety, and guess who she will be playing? None other than the red-head who steals Peter Parker’s heart, Mary Jane, or MJ for short. The role was played by Kirsten Dunst in Sam Raimi’s films, and it looks like Woodley is all set to sign on to play the role in Marc Webb’s sequel.
MJ was introduced in the comics as a love rival to Gwen Stacy (Stone), and the fact MJ is being cast for the sequel suggests the end of Stacy’s story. However, this is not the only news coming out of the Spider-Man camp.
Apparently the makers of the film are now on the look out for an actor to play the role of Harry Osborn, Spidey’s best friend turned enemy. The role of Osborn was played by Jsmes Franco in Raimi’s films. However, those getting excited about seeing a return of The Green Goblin may be disappointed. If you remember, the end of The Amazing Spidr-Man teased fans at the inclusion of Electro as the big villain of the sequel.
