I watched Skyfall last night and absolutely loved it. It was glamorous, thrilling, engaging, edge of your seat stuff with superb characters and some excellent performances. It was a little lacking in action, and instead relied on a terrific plot to drive the film, but when the action did come boy it was good. I will not talk anymore about Skyfall as my fellow reviewer Dr Lenera will be sharing his thoughts with you shortly, so instead I am here to tell you of a deal just struck with one of the writers of Skyfall, John Logan.
John Logan is an Academy Award nominated writer who has in the past written the likes of Gladiator, Hugo and The Aviator and a deal has been made that he will write the next two Bond films, both of which will star Daniel Craig. However, no word has yet been mentioned of writers Neal Purvis or Robert Wade returning, which is a shame since both have been onboard since The World is Not Enough.
During production of Skyfall, it is said that Logan pitched an idea to producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for two more Bond films, and that deal has now secretly gone ahead. It has also been reported that Logan is already working on the scripts. The Hollywood Reporter, says that Logan is working on two screenplays, neither of which are based on any of Ian Flemings stories, but there are rumours that these two stories will link, and might possibly be one big story told over two films.
Nothing has yet been confirmed, but writing two screenplays at the same time suggests at the bare minimum a link between the stories. While Sam Mendes will not be returning, there are plans in place to have the next Bond film in cinemas by November 2014, with MGM wanting to go back to the traditional release schedule of a new Bond every two years. Certainly the success of Skyfall will have everyone involved wanting to move forward quickly with Bond 24, and with the film expected to become the biggest opening film in the UK’s history, it is clear that there is a LOT of life left in the Bond franchise. If anything, it is more popular than ever.
Hopefully there will be some sort of confirmation on just what the plan is for Bond 24 and 25 once the film has had its worldwide release.
