It’s Twilight with aliens as the official trailer and new one-sheet invades for Stephenie Meyer’s ‘The Host’

As Twilight (finally) comes to an end with its release this Friday (or midnight Thursday if you really have to!), author Stephenie Meyer’s is all set for her next story to take over the lives of love hungry teens everywhere. The Host, in my opinion, is basically Twilight but with invading aliens.

However, it does appear to be on a rather large and epic scale, and the full length trailer which arrived today does have some impressive visuals. However, the music is dull, and the whole thing came across as quite drippy and depressive. I will definitely be giving this one a chance, but I also gave the first Twilight a chance… In all honesty, The Host does look better than that drippy, pathetic love triangle blubbering, so fingers crossed Meyer’s other story can possibly appeal to a wider audience? Oh, the new one-sheet is also below, if you can tolerate it.

Meyer is also producing the film, which is being directed by Andrew Niccol (In Time, Lord of War). The film stars Saoirse Ronan, Diane Kruger,Max Irons,  Jake Abel, William Hurt and Frances Fisher. The Host arrives in UK cinemas 29th March 2013.

Synopsis:

The Host is a riveting story about the survival of love and the human spirit in a time of war. Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact. Most of humanity has succumbed.

When Melanie, one of the few remaining “wild” humans, is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading “soul” who has been given Melanie’s body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
