Directed, produced and written by Dick Jane

Psychotic but fun, Kiddy Kiddy Bang Bang (or KKBB for short) is fresh from the warped yet artistically creative mind of Dick Jane, who previously brought us short film 0,1,2,3,1,0.

In KKBB, 9-year-old twin sisters set out to take revenge on a serial paedophile who has just attacked their friend, Jenny. Finding the identity of the molester on the Pervert Protection Department’s website database, sisters Polly (Devin Werder) and Sam (Riley Werder) devise a cunning plan to take revenge on the sick paedo.

Dressed identical with their hair in two plaits tied with candy cane striped ribbon, the twins look like butter wouldn’t melt in their mouth. However, you wouldn’t want to cross these two ‘cos sweethearts they ain’t. Polly and Sam may be 9 years old but they have the brains of experienced, street-wise adults and blood thirsty ones at that. When watching KKBB, I can imagine Dead Hooker In A Trunk directors, the Soska twins, being very much like Sam and Polly, when they were younger.

On the hunt for justice, the twins pay a visit to Bill Hannigan (Reed Daniels), the sicko who assaulted their young friend. Peeping through the spyhole in his door, the greasy perv sees a pot of gold on the other side in the form of the young twins. Talking out loud to God, asking if he can have his devious ways with the kids, “God” answers him with an encouragable “go for it!”, proving the warped state of mind of Bill. Thinking the girls have brought some cookies to sell, Bill gets more than he bargained for with the blood-splattered shock of his life.

Dick Jane has created a dark, hard-hitting short that brings home a serious message except instead of being nothing but a rather bleak and brutal affair, Jane injects black humour into the proceedings to lift the tone and by using the gun-wielding, young twin sisters, creates two iconic avengers.

Having reviewed and witnessed clips of Jane’s previous shorts, the style seen in KKBB is very much in keeping with Jane’s artistic creations. The grindhouse-feel intro at the beginning of the film introduces the characters to the viewer before we’ve even seen them in action. The slick camera skills and bright colours kept me visually entertained and later in the 9 minute film, Jane does not skimp on the red stuff despite it being such a short scene.

KKBB is an in-your-face, gritty, kick-ass revenge thriller, bursting with bad-ass style that will have you punching the air with glee. Yes, the subject may be a bit controversial, but the delivery and the justice which prevails is just the kind we’re all itching to see. KKBB screams out that it will not take these perverse crimes lying down *ahem* and instead will dish out just deserts, the kind that the government and law could never provide. The ultimate HELL YEAH! comes from the fact this calculated revenge for the innocent is delivered by two kids, who excel their years in both brains and skill.

Deadly, darkly comedic and thoroughly entertaining, KKBB has you on the edge of your seat waiting for the inevitable, cinematic gore-splosion. Pleasing on every level, the film continues it’s cheeky charm well into the credits with a gentle yet powerfully lyrical song by Christian Masse.

Ending the film with “to be continued…”, I certainly hope to see more action and acts of justice from the Werder sisters as Polly and Sam. The exploitation style of KKBB works tremendously well and is a long-lost sight in the cinema of today. Jane has definitely found his niche with the lethal twin anti-heroines and I hope to see a series of vengeful outings for the pair.

I love practical effects, stop-motion animation and gore, but most of all I love a good story! I adore B-movies and exploitation films in many of their guises and also have a soft spot for creature features. I review a wide range of media including movies, TV series, books and videogames. I'm a massive fan of author Hunter S. Thompson and I enjoy various genre of videogames with Kingdom Hearts and Harvest Moon two of my all time favs. Currently playing: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Yakuza Zero and Mafia III.
