Kristen Stewart returns for ‘Snow White & The Huntsman’ sequel, unsurprisingly director Rupert Sanders does not

We reported on this sometime ago, and yesterday it was confirmed that director Rupert Sanders would NOT be returning to direct the sequel to his debut feature length film, Snow White and the Huntsman. However, what has been reported is that Kristen Stewart will be returning…

Sanders and Stewart had an affair while filming Snow White and the Huntsman, and naturally this caused a bit of a media frenzy and a lot of hate from fans. Having the pair both return for Snow White and the Huntsman 2 could have spelled disaster for Universal, so the decision not to have Sanders return makes sense. However, Sanders has said that the reason he is not returning to direct is  “because he is desperately still trying to save his marriage,”.

A source told Radar Online: “The script has already been written and production will begin late next year. However, Rupert Sanders definitely won’t be a part of the project. Rupert didn’t want to be a part of it to begin with because he is desperately still trying to save his marriage. The search is still on for a new director.”

Universal have seen potential in the director though, and for a debut film Snow White and the Huntsman achieved a worldwide gross of close to $400 million, so Universal are keen to keep the director working with them. It would appear that Sanders will now be directing the Van Helsing reboot for Universal which will star Tom Cruise. Sanders also recently signed with Sony to direct a sci-fi romance called Juliet.

Radar Online also reports that actress Kristen Stewart WILL be returning for the Snow White and The Huntsman sequel, however there has not been any confirmation yet as to whether Charlize Theron or Chris Hemsworth are returning. I would assume they will, and while no synopsis has yet been revealed, it was earlier this year that the Snow White film would be turned into a trilogy. Each film would focus on one particular character: we have already had Snow White, and reports said that the two sequels would focus on Theron’s Ravenna and Hemsworth’s Huntsman.

We await confirmation on the plot of the sequel, and hopefully a director will be announced shortly.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
