Not much is known about David Cronenberg’s follow up to Cosmopolis, but whatever the films story, it is a Cronenberg film and as such is a good reason to be excited. It has been reported that Rachel Weisz has joined the cast, and will have her first experience working with Cronenberg, and I am looking forward to see what the results are. Weisz have been appearing in a number of smaller titles of late, with films like Dream House, The Whistleblower and The Deep Blue Sea not exactly setting the box office in fire. The Bourne Legacy did relatively well, and Oz: The Great and Powerful could prove to be one of her biggest films for a while.
Weisz will be joining Cronenberg regular Viggo Mortensen (A History of Violence, A Dangerous Method, Eastern Promises) and also Robert Pattinson, whom Cronenberg completely changed in his return to the weird and wonderful with Cosmopolis earlier this year.
Bruce Wagner has written the screenplay for Maps to the Stars, and the film is currently in pre-production, with a planned release of sometime next year. The only synopsis available is that on IMDB which goes as follows:
“Complex look at Hollywood and what it reveals about Western culture”
More as it develops.
