Chronicle’s Dane DeHaan joins ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ as Harry Osborn, and Jamie Foxx talks new villain Electro!

Coming from the most reliable source, the director of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Marc Webb tweeted confirmation that Dane Dehaan has been cast as Harry Osborn. DeHaan shot to fame after playing the troubled teen with superhuman powers in Josh Trank’s exceptional Chronicle earlier this year, and since then has gone on to play small roles in both Lincoln and Lawless. The casting in Spider-Man 2 (his biggest role yet) will top off a phenomenal year for the actor.

Harry Osborn was played by James Franco in Sam Raimi’s films, and the character is both a close friend of Peter Parker and enemy to Spider-Man who eventually follow in his Father’s footsteps and becomes the Green Goblin. No confirmation has been said whether DeHaan’s Harry Osborn will become with Green Goblin in Webb’s sequel, but with Jamie Foxx already cast as the main villain Electro, two villains could prove very exciting indeed.

DeHaan will join an already returning Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacey. Also joining the cast of the sequel are Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, and Jamie Foxx as the villain Electro.

Foxx recently spoke with Entertainment Tonight about his upcoming Tarantino film, Django Unchained, and while speaking with them the question was naturally asked about his character in the upcoming Spider-Man sequel. Foxx did not exactly give much away, but here is what he said:

“I met with the director, Mark Webb, I met with Andrew Garfield, and we talked. … I think Electro will be an exciting character to play because he’s a … genius electrician-type person, and he gets the short end of the stick from the whole world, and the next thing you know he turns it on.”

Star Trek Into Darkness writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are writing the sequel, with Marc Webb returning as director. No official synopsis has yet been released, but Columbia Pictures have announced a release date of 2nd May 2014.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
