After months of secrecy and mystery, JJ Abrams is slowly revealing a little more each day from his upcoming sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness, and today we have yet another teaser for you.
Going down the same root as Skyfall and The Avengers Assemble, a new image from the film shows Benedict Cumberbatch’s still un-named villain in a glass prison. As seems to be the in thing right now, like Skyfall, The Avengers and even The Dark Knight Rises, it would appear that the villain in Star Trek Into Darkness will be momentarily caught. I would also imagine like those previous films, that it is all part of his plan?
The image also shows Chris Pine’s Kirk and Zachary Quinto’s Spock looking at the villain. There was also a caption released with the image (below) which named Benedict Cumberbatch’s villain as John Harrison. Now, being a JJ Abrams film, and considering the air of mystery around the villain, it is doubtful he would be named quite so easily. I would imagine you could sift through the entire Star Trek universe and not find John Harrison as a character, or if you did then it would lead or indicate someone completely different?
Also revealed today by Cinemabland was the name of Alice Eve’s also mysterious character. See, a number of select people have been allowed to see the special nine minute preview playing in IMAX versions of the Hobbit this weekend, and while they were not allowed to talk about specific’s, they were allowed to review it. Others were given a tour of Bad Robot Productions, and were allowed to ask questions and conduct interviews.
Cinemabland’s Eric Eisenberg was told that Alice Eve’s character is named Carol Marcus, and he had a theory on her character
WARNING POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
Eisenberg said: “The reason why Carol Marcus’ presence could be an indication of something bigger is the fact that she is best known for her part in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. In the original timeline, Marcus is credited with the creation of the Genesis Device – a tool that could be used to terraform uninhabitable planets and make them suitable for human life – and for giving birth to James T. Kirk’s son, David Marcus. Could this be yet another indication that Cumberbatch is actually Khan?”
Star Trek Into Darkness is directed by JJ Abrams, and the cast includes Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zoe Saldana, Alice Eve, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, John Cho and Peter Weller. Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof are on writing duties.
Star Trek 2 will arrive in UK cinemas 17th May 2013.
