The latest image from Guillermo Del Toro’s giant monsters vs giant robots movie, Pacific Rim, has landed on-line, but sadly does not feature anything all that exciting. We want to see giant monsters, and giant robots, God dammit!
What we do get is Idris “we are cancelling the apocalypse!!!” Elba as Stacker Pentecost looking all serious and intense in what appears to be a rather cool control room. And what is he doing in this control room? Well, looking down at poor old Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi) who looks absolutely terrified as Pentecost points his finger at her.
Personally, I reckon he was asking her advise on how best to deliver his rousing battle cry speech seen in the trailer, and he was asking her whether to tell his men at the beginning, or at the end of his speech that “today, we are cancelling the apocalypse!!!”
Directed by Guillermo del Toro and written by Travis Beacham, Pacific Rim stars Idris Elba (Prometheus), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Charlie Hunnam (Horrible Bosses), Charlie Day, Clifton Collins Jr, Rinko Kikuchi and Robert Maillet.
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes – a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) – who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
