New synopsis for ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ offers up a few more clues…

Calm down, calm down and don’t get too excited! There is not a lot really here to share with you, just a very slightly different synopsis to the one already released a few months ago, but darn it director JJ Abrams just loves the tease doesn’t he!

Paramount released a new synopsis yesterday, so without wasting any more time, lets take a look at it shall we?

New synopsis:

In Summer 2013, director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness.

In the wake of a shocking act of terror from within their own organization, the crew of The Enterprise is called back home to Earth. In defiance of regulations and with a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads his crew on a manhunt to capture an unstoppable force of destruction and bring those responsible to justice.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

So, let’s compare, and see where the differences are:

Old synopsis:

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes “Star Trek Into Darkness.”

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

So, here’s the new synopsis again, with the changes highlighted in bold!!!

Well, firstly the word “pioneering” has been removed before JJ Abrams name, but the most relevant stuff is in the second paragraph. Firstly it stills states that the crew of The Enterprise is called back home after a vicious act of terror, and yes it still confirms it is from within the organization, but what we also learn here is that Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) is acting against orders, and doing things his way.

Kirk is well known for not always following orders, but this indicates that the attack has been personal to Kirk, and that he will be hell bent on revenge. This could lead to many other problems for Kirk and his crew, but already the new synopsis is indicating much bigger problems.

While the first synopsis simply stated the enemy was a “one man weapon of mass destruction”, the new synopsis states “to capture an unstoppable force of destruction, and bring THOSE responsible to justice”. THOSE responsible, indicating that Benedict Cumberbatch’s villain is not the only one Kirk and his crew needs to worry about, there will be many more of them. Big battles are guaranteed!!!

Thanks Paramount and Abrams for continuing the ever so small changes and hints to keep everyone on the edge of their seats in anticipation!

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
