‘Pacific Rim’ trailer arriving next Wednesday, plus a sequel is already in the works!

In a move that is becoming more and more common for expected big releases, a sequel for Guillermo Del Toro’s giant robots vs giant monsters epic is already in the works. The idea of writing a sequel to a film not yet released is usually a good sign, and proves the studio behind the film have every confidence the film will become a major success. Legendary Entertainment have done just that, and the sequel to Pacific Rim is already being written.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Legendary has hired Travis Beacham to begin writing the sequel to Guillermo Del Toro’s epic film, and it also sounds like Del Toro will also be helping in writing the next film. The pair both collaborated on Pacific Rim, and it may be that they had planned a sequel all along, which may lead to Pacific Rim having an open ending leaving it ready for the next film. Del Toro said in a recent interview that both he and Beacham had been throwing around ideas for a sequel, and now it seems that Legendary are keen to get it moving having commissioned a script for the sequel.

Obviously nothing is known of what the sequel will be about, but this is very exciting and very positive news for Del Toro’s first film as director since Hellboy 2 in 2008. Whether he will return to direct the sequel remains to be seen, but with Del Toro announcing the haunted house horror Crimson Peak as his next film as director, it is unlikely he will return to direct Pacific Rim 2. However, there is a good chance he may stick around as producer, but nothing is known yet of what his intentions are. Either way, without having seen Pacific Rim yet, I just know it is going to be awesome and a sequel is very welcome!

Now, all we have seen so far for Pacific Rim is that awesome one minute clip showing news reports of an attack on San Francisco by a giant “300 foot tall” monster called the Kaiju, but fear not Pacific Rim fans, for a trailer is closer than you think!

The viral campaign kicked off for the film in a big way last week, and you can click here to get up to date with all the news on this massive film so far, but one of the cool things this campaign opened was a website. The website is called Pan Pacific Defense and it features a countdown clock which is counting down to the release of the films full length trailer. According to the clock, and trailer should arrive next Wednesday, a week from today, and you can be sure as soon as the trailer becomes available we will have it here.

Check out the website for more cool stuff too. Worryingly, those little red dots showing a monster attack have increased since the website opened last week, indicating that it is not just the Pacific suffering from giant monster attacks. The problem is becoming global, and if you click on those red dots then you will be able to open up some cool information about what the hell is going on. Go on, you know you want to!

Here is the official synopsis:

From acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro comes Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ epic sci-fi action adventure “Pacific Rim.”

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end.  To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge.  But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju.  On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past.  Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Oscar® nominee Guillermo del Toro (“Pan’s Labyrinth”) is directing “Pacific Rim” from a script by Travis Beacham (“Clash of the Titans”).  Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Mary Parent are producing, with Callum Greene serving as executive producer.

The film stars Charlie Hunnam (TV’s “Sons of Anarchy”), Idris Elba (“Thor”), Rinko Kikuchi (“The Brothers Bloom”), Charlie Day (“Horrible Bosses”), and Ron Perlman (the “Hellboy” films).  The ensemble cast also includes Max Martini, Robert Kazinsky, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Diego Klattenhoff, and Brad William Henke.

Del Toro’s behind-the-scenes team includes Academy Award®-winning director of photography Guillermo Navarro, production designer Andrew Neskoromny, editor Peter Amundson, and costume designer Kate Hawley.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
