It feels like a lifetime ago we shared with you a seven minute reel of footage from director Austin Chicks’s violent revenge thriller, Girls Against Boys, and today finally the trailer has arrived. It doesn’t disappoint either, and is full of sex, violence and bad girls doing even badder things.
Girls Against Boys was picked up by Anchor Bay at this years SXSW festival, and they have now announced that the film will get a small theatrical run in New York and Los Angeles on 1st February.
The female revenge killing spree thriller, written and directed by Austin Chick (XX/XY), stars Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th, The Crazies) and Nicole LaLiberte (Dinner for Schmucks, Kaboom). Panabaker plays Shae, a 21-year old student who, after a brutal sexual assault, teams up with fellow nightclub bartender – LaLiberte’s “Lu” – on a weekend of one beautifully staged execution after another. Girls Against Boys is produced by Aimee Shieh and Clay Floren.
Girls Against Boys is a character-driven, psychological thriller about two girls on a killing spree in New York. With edgy and ironic humor and a darkly meditative tone that is far more European or Asian than typically American, it is also a coming-of-age story about a young woman coming to understand how the world really works. It’s a ride for sure, and it even gets more than a little gruesome, but it’s character-driven rather than action-driven, and it has a psychological twist that’s more like a way of reading the film than a big reveal.
