While JJ Abrams has gone to great lengths to hide the true identity of Benedict Cumberbatch’s villain in his sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness, a serious possible misprint may have finally given us our answer. However, with Abrams cleverly leading fans in all sorts of different directions about who the villain is, what I am about to reveal just might be yet another Abrams game. The man has been toying with us for months about the villain of his new film, so I can’t be sure it would be revealed quite as easily as this.
Yes, there would now be huge spoilers for those not wanting to know who Cumberbatch is playing, so read on with caution, but also remember that this could be one huge great balls up by someone who just might be in a lot of trouble!
Entertainment Weekly’s latest magazine comes with two Star Trek themed covers: one features Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto), while the second cover features Kirk and Cumberbatch, and the name attached to Cumberbatch is Khan! Now, everyone has been saying, almost since the film was released, that they believed the villain would be Khan, and that speculation has grown stronger and stronger. Even Abrams’ desperate attempts to throw fans off the scent by having his cast name other villains, and even giving Cumberbatch#s villain a ‘fake name’, fans have STILL swore blind that Cumberbatch is playing Khan.
So, EW have just dropped a bombshell, and it is either yet another clever marketing tactic by Abrams, or EW have indeed made a huge error and revealed Abrams’ best kept secret. The page (below) is still up, I am not sure what they means, but no one has corrected it yet, so maybe EW have indeed finally revealed it? I would imagine more will be revealed over the next day or so.
EW also got the exclusive on a new bunch of Star Trek images, some of which you can see below. Everyone looks deadly serious in these new images, and no one is looking particularly happy, a sign of a VERY intense film to come!
