Speculate, speculate, speculate!! All this Star Wars news is simply speculation at this point, but the latest about the stand alone spin-off’s is very exciting indeed. After Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that there will indeed be some Star Wars spin-off’s planned, the Internet went mental with ideas as to who they would like to see have their own movie. From Yoda to Jabba the Hutt, all sorts of ideas have been thrown around, but it would seem that the two main characters fans would like to see have their own story told is bounty hunter Boba Fett, and cocky smuggler Han Solo.
EW broke the story on the spin-off’s of Fett and Solo, and they claim sources close to the Star Wars project at Disney have said that this is indeed the direction they are heading. We all now know that JJ Abrams is directing Episode VII, but until now we did not know justwhere screenwriters Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg were planning to go with the stand-alone films.
The report says that the Boba Fett story will take place either between A New Hope and The Empire Strokes Back, or The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. It also states how the Han Solo film will take place sometime between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.
Should this turn out to be true, I am very excited to be a Boba Fett “origin” story, but even though I love Han Solo, it just wouldn’t be right without Harrison Ford playing him, and sadly the actor is now too old, so a Solo spin-off , in my opinion, just wouldn’t work.
However, further updates came out just a few hour ago claiming that these spin-off’s may never happen, and quite rightly say that these spin-off’s will take place during the six years of making and releasing episodes VII, VIII and IX. With Abrams tied to Star Trek right now, there is no guarantee that Star Wars: Episode VII will meet its 2015 deadline, so these stand-alone films could easily change.
“Nobody knows when these movies are even coming out. Right now, people are just kicking around ideas. Which is why you hear it’s Yoda one day and a young Han Solo another. It’s all in early development right now.” Said a source close to production.
However, more interesting news has landed by way of Jo on Fox FM. The Australian radio host is claiming that John Noble (himself Australian) is up for playing the villain in Episode VII. No specifics are given, but the actor does have ties with Abrams after starring in the superb TV series Fringe as Walter Bishop. Fringe, in case you didn’t know, was created by Abrams.
Personally, I think Noble would make a superb villain, but again this is all speculation.
