Ben Wheatley’s ‘A Field in England’ picks up UK distribution, film confirmed as a horror!

Some exciting distribution news here! Ben Wheatley, director of Kill List, Sightseers and Down Terrace has a new film all ready and waiting, and it has now found itself a distribution deal.

Screen Daily is reporting that A Field in England is part of a three film distribution deal struck between Picturehouse Entertainment, Film4 and 4DVD. The report also confirms A Field in England is a horror, and will be released sometime this summer!

“This partnership makes sense,” said Film4’s head of commercial and brand strategy Sue Bruce Smith and Picturehouse’s director of programming and acquisitions Clare Binns. “These are the first three films in what we hope is a long journey.”

“We sat down after the success of The Imposter and talked about how we could work together”, explained Bruce Smith. “After the break-out success of The Inbetweeners Movie it was also clear that 4DVD, which has concentrated on TV series to date, wanted to get more involved in film distribution.”

The three films included in the deal are Ben Wheatley’s A Field in England, Shane Meadows’ upcoming Stone Roses documentary The Stone Roses: Made of Stone (can’t wait for that one!!) and  Sophie Fiennes’ LFF documentary The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology.

A Field in England is directed by Ben Wheatley, who co-wrote the film with Amy Jump.  Michael Smiley (Kill List), Peter Ferdinando (Tony), Reece Shearsmith (The League of Gentlemen), Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh), Richard Glover (Sightseers) and Ryan Pope (Ideal) star in the English Civil War set film.

Here is the rather crazy and very exciting synopsis:

England : 1648 AD

A small group of deserters flee from a raging battle through an overgrown field. They are captured by two men: O’Neil and Cutler.

O’Neil (Michael Smiley), an alchemist, forces the group to aid him in his search to find a hidden treasure that he believes is buried in the field.

Crossing a vast mushroom circle, which provides their first meal, the group quickly descend into a chaos of arguments, fighting and paranoia, and, as it becomes clear that the treasure might be something other than gold, they slowly become victim to the terrifying energies trapped inside the field.

A Field In England is a psychedelic trip into magic and madness from Ben Wheatley – award-winning director of Down Terrace, Kill List and Sightseers.

The film is written by Amy Jump & Ben Wheatley and produced by Claire Jones & Andy Starke, with Anna Higgs Executive Producer for Film4. Shooting commences late September. Protagonist Pictures are handling international sales.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
