Oh dear oh dear, seems like poor old James McAvoy may have given the wrong information regarding Alan Cumming returning as Nightcrawler in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
However, before we get angry at McAvoy, the poor fella is in the middle of promoting not only Welcome to the Punch (out tomorrow) but also Danny Boyle’s new film Trance (out 27th March), and he is also playing Macbeth on stage. McAvoy is so busy right now that he hasn’t even had chance to read the X-Men: Days of Future Past script yet: “The ‘X-Men’ script? It’s in my inbox. I’ve still got to read it. I’m very excited about it, but I’ve just been doing so much of this and working at night so I’m starting work at 9 and don’t finish until midnight so I’m not being flippant. I honestly can’t wait to read it and find out what I’m doing, but I’ve just got no time right now” is what he said a week ago.
So basically, he can be forgiven for getting the odd cast member wrong, but its just a shame that the one name he got wrong for the cast of Bryan Singer’s sequel was a character fans loved, and were desperate to see return. Sadly Nightcrawler will not be back, and from what Alan Cumming (who played Nightcrawler in X2) said in a recent interview, the actor doesn’t have space on his schedule to return even if he was asked to.
“No, they haven’t [asked me to return]”,he said. “Someone asked me that the other day and I said no. I know the one that’s coming up shoots this Spring, but I wouldn’t be available anyways. I don’t think they have. I was gonna meet my manager for dinner later, I was gonna ask him, but no, I’m sure they would’ve told me, had they approached.”
X-Men: Days of Future Past is expected to arrive in cinemas 18th July 2014.
X-Men: Days of Future Past is being written by Jane Goldman, Simon Kinberg and Matthew Vaughn and will see the newly formed titular team working to prevent an alternate future where mutants are hunted by giant machines called The Sentinels.
It follows the 1980s’ comic storyline written by Chris Claremont that alternates between a present day battle against the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and a future timeline where an assassination of a government official has led to Sentinels roaming the land and mutants held prisoner in internment camps.
So far the cast for X-Men: Days of Future Past, is looking something like this: Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage, Halle Berry and Shawn Ashmore.
