Stallone wants “new blood” and “more humour” in ‘The Expendables 3’, plus a shocking action star not appearing in the film

Many fans regarded The Expendables 2 as a much better film than the first one, however I felt the first film was a lot of fun, and the sequel was a bit bland and desperate. But, that doesn’t stop me getting excited about the third film, and with names like Wesley Snipes, Jackie Chan, Nic Cage and even Clint Eastwood all being mentioned, my guess is the third film will go even bigger.

Stallone has taken to Twitter to update on the third film which is still in the writing stages. No director or cast have been confirmed, although my guess is that Stallone, Statham, Arnie, Willis, Crews, Couture and Lundgren will all probably return. Stallone said:

Writing EX3 at the moment… there are going to be mountains of surprises.

EX3 needs NEW blood and more humor…. The films were always meant to be more on the humorous side with moments of drama

Mountains of surprises, more humour and moments of drama? Sounds like more of the same then, but what could be the surprises? What I would like to see is a few actors kept secret until the film comes out, but it is doubtful that would ever happen. the surprises would have to be people Stallone is hoping to appear in the film though, so the guessing games and wish-lists may long continue.

One name who I have wanted to see make the franchise but as yet hasn’t is Steven Seagal. While his output over the last decade or so has not exactly been brilliant, he still never fails to amuse me, and when he appeared as the villain in Machete, I thought his career was about to be kick-started. Sadly it didn’t, and so I was hoping an appearance in The Expendables was on the cards. Sadly Stallone confirmed this not to be the case:

Sylvester Stallone ?@TheSlyStallone

No S. Seagal, sorry ,but maybe we get lucky with J. Chan! And some young bloods!!!

By young I mean 22 to 27. Not big bruisers but tech wizard, super brains and a young woman who is not a sex symbol but funny ,tough,REAL

That’s a damn shame, but now Stallone is talking about “young bloods”, and this could mean people like Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel, Tony Jaa and (hopefully) Uko Iwais? Your guess is as good as mine, but no doubt Stallone will happily be announcing names as soon as they make the deals. Expect plenty of updates as and when they come…

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
