First TV spot for Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim’ will cancel the apocalypse!!!

pacific rim

The very first (hopefully of many) TV spot crashed on-line today for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. As is the norm for a TV spot, it runs for thirty seconds, but look closely and you will spot a brand new clip of one of the giant Kaiju monsters, and it looks ferocious and awesome. The TV spot also features what could well become THE best line of the year, Idris Elba as Stacker Pentecost bellowing “today, we are cancelling the apocalypse!!” Yeah!!!

With the films release now three months off, there is plenty of time for the promotional material to be beefed up, and surely after this new TV spot and those Jaegar character posters, things are gearing up for a brand new trailer? Let’s hope so!

Directed by Guillermo del Toro and written by Travis Beacham, Pacific Rim stars Idris Elba (Prometheus), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Charlie Hunnam (Horrible Bosses), Charlie Day, Clifton Collins Jr, Rinko Kikuchi  and Robert Maillet.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes – a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) – who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Release Date 12th July 2013

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
