Luke Evans has had a fairly successful career in supporting roles, appearing in films like Clash of the Titans, Immortals, The Three Musketeers, The Raven and Blitz, the actor is set to continue into even bigger films this year with The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and Fast and Furious 6. However, he has now bagged himself a starring role in Universals long in the pipeline horror, Dracula.
Originally called Dracula Year Zero, the origin story about how Prince Vlad sacrificed himself to save his family from a vicious sultan did have Alex Proyas (Dark City, The Crow) attached to direct, with Sam Worthington to star. However, commercials director Gary Shore came onboard last year, and incredibly is still attached and waiting to get started.
With his leading man now cast as Luke Evans takes on the role of Prince Vlad, it has now been reported that Shore intends to shoot the flick later this year!
The script tells of a young prince who, when the lives of his wife and child are put in danger by a bloodthirsty sultan, risks his soul to save them, and in the process becomes the first vampire.
Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the latest draft of the script and Michael De Luca will produce through his Michael De Luca Prods. banner.
