There’s quite a bit of Marvel news to get through here, but all the news is actually quite brief, so here goes…

Firstly, and most importantly, it was announced yesterday that Joss Whedon’s The Avengers 2 will be heading to the UK to shoot in early 2014. Pinewood-Shepperton Studios, who also found a home for Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor: The Dark World and James Gunn’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy, will be the location that The Avengers 2 will be filmed.

This is very exciting for the UK, because The Avengers 2 is likely to be the biggest film of 2015, and with this being the third Marvel movie filmed there, is is very good news for the UK’s film industry. The massive sequel is due to begin filming in early 2014, with the whole gang back, but plot details are not being released yet. Reports are saying that Whedon, Marvel and Disney are waiting to see how Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 3 play out before leading them into the next big superhero get-together.

Also revealed by Marvel is a new trailer which is included in the new Marvel Phase One Blu-ray boxset. The boxset is shaped like a briefcase, and is currently only available on region 1 US import. It includes the following trailer which talks about how Phase One leads in to Phase Two, kicking off with Iron Man 3 on April 26th.

So, Marvel will kick off Phase Two with Iron Man 3 here in the UK on 26th April, and Phase Two will then consist of the following:

Thor: The Dark World- 8th November 2013

Captain America: The Winter Soldier- 4th April 2014

Robert Redford confirmed to appear in Captain America: The Winter Soldier:

Yep, confirmed today, Robert Redford will indeed appear in Captain America: The Winter Soldier as “the head of S.H.I.E.L.D.”, a man superior even to Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury!

“The Captain America thing is just a very simple thing,” Redford told Spinoff.

“I wanted to do something different. I wanted to do something just to be different. Something bold, different. And that felt like a good thing to do. That was it, nothing more to it than that. Well, it’s bold in terms of expectations, I guess.”

Captain America: The Winter Soldier will star Chris Evans, Cobie Smulders, Robert Redford, Frank Grillo, Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Emily VanCamp and Samuel L. Jackson. The film will be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo.

The film has a release date of 4th April 2014.

As Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world, he’s reunited with James ‘Bucky’ Barnes, who is now brainwashed Russian assassin known as the ‘Winter Soldier’.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
