A movie timeline, created by asking the nation to list the inspirational DVDs and Blurays that helped them through significant milestones, shows we’re relying on the Best of British in times of need with Love Actually, Bridget Jones’ Diary, Kate Beckinsale and Colin Firth coming out tops.

The survey reveals an average life in film, from the first movie people want to share with children, to films that turn teens into adults, the films that help us get over first loves and films that help overcome a mid-life crisis.

Universal Pictures (UK) launched the poll as part of their invitation to the nation to create their own movie time-lines, chronicling their lives through the movies that matter the most:

Youth (0-10 years old)
Inspirational rites of passage movie for children – E.T. The Extra Terrestrial
(28%)
Film that inspired you to grow from an awkward teenager – Billy Elliot (20%)

Teens (10-20 years old)
Biggest celebrity crush moment for men – Kate Beckinsale in Van Helsing (14%)
Biggest celebrity crush moment for women – Colin Firth 24% in Pride and
Prejudice
Film that helped turn me from a boy to a man – American Pie (13%)
Film that helped turn me from a girl to a woman – Bridget Jones’ Diary (16%)

Early Life (20-30 years old)

Universal Pictures (UK) is now inviting the nation to create their own movie time-line, chronicling their lives through the films that matter the most. From the first film you saw with your partner that brings back that rush of excitement when your hands grazed over the popcorn, to the film you laughed at so hard you cried and the one
you just couldn’t wait to show your child when they were old enough – everyone’s story can be told through the movies they’ve loved.
