A short while ago it was announced that Luke Evans (Immortals, Clash of the Titans, Fast and Furious 6, The Raven) had signed on to play Prince Vlad in Universals Dracula origin story. Originally called Dracula Year Zero, Universal announced today that they aim to have the film in cinemas on August 8th 2014. Shooting is expected to begin shortly.

Originally called Dracula Year Zero, the origin story about how Prince Vlad sacrificed himself to save his family from a vicious sultan did have Alex Proyas (Dark City, The Crow) attached to direct, with Sam Worthington to star. However, commercials director Gary Shore came onboard last year, and incredibly is still attached and waiting to get started.

The script tells of a young prince who, when the lives of his wife and child are put in danger by a bloodthirsty sultan, risks his soul to save them, and in the process becomes the first vampire.

Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the latest draft of the script and Michael De Luca will produce through his Michael De Luca Prods. banner.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
